❝ Nico

Legal

The short version, and then the long one.

Nico runs on your Mac. It has no server of ours to send anything to, so most of what a privacy policy usually has to explain does not apply here. The parts that do are set out in full below.

In short

This summary is not a substitute for the sections below, but nothing below contradicts it.

  • Your files stay on your Mac. Nico has no servers that receive your documents, your voice, your transcripts or anything your apps produce.
  • We do not see your prompts. When you ask for something, Nico runs the Claude Code, Codex or Ollama already installed on your machine, under your own subscription. Nothing is proxied through us.
  • What we do hold is billing information, because a paid subscription requires it, and it is held by our payment processor rather than by us.
  • Seven days free, with no card asked for, and you can cancel any time after that. Your apps, their data and anything you have transcribed stay on your Mac as ordinary folders either way.
  • Nico can run other people’s code — that is what building and running an app means. Section 6 of the Terms explains where that responsibility sits.

Terms of Service

1. Who you are contracting with

Nico is published by Pixmeknot Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 08062851, whose registered office is 65 Icona Point, Warton Road, London E15 2LE, England (“we”, “us”). By installing or using Nico you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it.

2. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Nico on Macs you own or control, for as long as your subscription is active. You may not resell Nico, redistribute it, or remove or defeat any licensing mechanism in it.

Nico includes third-party open-source components. Those are licensed to you under their own terms, which are listed in the application under Acknowledgements, and nothing in these terms restricts rights granted to you by those licences.

3. The free trial

Nico is free to use in full for seven days, counted from your first recording rather than from the moment you install it. Downloading it and not getting to it for a fortnight costs you nothing. We do not ask for a card to begin, so there is nothing to cancel if you decide against it — the trial simply ends. Anything you made during it, including apps, their data folders and anything transcribed, remains on your Mac and remains yours.

When it ends, only new recording stops. Everything already on your Mac stays open, readable and exportable.

One trial per Mac. We count the seven days on the machine itself and it is not reported to us.

4. How your licence reaches you, and why there is no account

Payment is taken by Stripe. When it succeeds, we email a licence key to the address you gave at checkout. You paste it into Nico once, and Nico exchanges it for a signed licence file that it then checks on your Mac, offline, with no server involved. It fetches a fresh one when the current one is within a week of expiring — about once a month, and a little more often over your first fortnight, while you can still ask for a refund — and that request carries your licence key and a machine fingerprint, and nothing else. There is no account to create, no password, and no profile of you on a server of ours: the key and your Stripe receipt are the whole of the relationship.

One subscription covers three Macs. If you replace a machine and run out of room, email us and we will free a slot.

Keep the key. If you lose it, email us from the address you paid with and we will send it again.

5. Subscription, price and changes

Nico costs $25 per month unless a different price was shown to you at the time you subscribed, in which case that price applies for the period stated. Payment is taken in advance by our payment processor. We may change the price of future renewal periods by giving you at least 30 days’ notice by email; if you do not accept the new price you may cancel before it takes effect.

Your subscription does not include, and we do not resell, any Claude, OpenAI or other model provider subscription. Those are yours, billed by them, under their terms.

6. What Nico runs, and who is responsible for it

Nico builds and runs software on your Mac. That software may be written by a model at your request, brought in by you from a folder, or imported from an archive somebody sent you. In every case it is code running on your computer with your permissions, and you are responsible for deciding to run it.

Nico shows you the command it is about to run before it runs it, asks before a tool does anything that changes something, and keeps the credentials an app needs in the macOS Keychain. These are safeguards, not guarantees. We are not responsible for what code you choose to run, for what it does to your files, or for costs it causes you to incur with a third party.

You agree not to use Nico to break the law, to infringe anybody’s rights, or to record or process other people’s personal data without whatever basis the law where you are requires. Whether you have that basis is your responsibility and not something we can assess for you.

7. Availability and changes to the software

We may change, add to or remove features. If we remove something you relied on, or stop distributing Nico entirely, we will give you reasonable notice and you may cancel. Because Nico runs locally, a version already installed continues to work on your Mac; what a cancellation ends is your right to updates and to new installations.

8. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, and to the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of data, or indirect or consequential loss.

If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect, including rights in respect of digital content that is not of satisfactory quality or not as described.

9. Ending the agreement

You may cancel at any time (see Refunds & cancellation). We may suspend or end your subscription if you breach these terms, if payment fails, or if we are required to by law — and other than where the breach makes it inappropriate, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your own country’s law.

Privacy Policy

Nico is unusual in that the honest answer to “what do you collect” is almost nothing — because there is no server for it to go to.

What never leaves your Mac

The following are processed entirely on your own machine and are never transmitted to us, in whole or in part, for any purpose:

  • Audio captured by Nico, and any text produced from it.
  • The contents of files you drop on it, or that an app you built reads.
  • Anything an app you built writes, including its data folder.
  • The prompts you write or speak, and the answers you receive.
  • Any credential you give an app, which is kept in the macOS Keychain and not in a file.

What we do process, and why

WhatWhyLawful basis
Name, email, billing address, card details To take payment and meet tax obligations. Card details go to our payment processor and are never held by us. Performance of a contract; legal obligation
Licence status for your subscription So the application knows whether your subscription is current. Performance of a contract
Your licence key, and a machine fingerprint derived from your Mac, when Nico refreshes its licence To issue the signed licence file that tells the application your subscription is current, and to keep one subscription to three Macs. The fingerprint is a keyed hash of a hardware identifier — it is not a serial number, it does not identify you, and it cannot be matched to any other company’s version of the same value. Performance of a contract
Your IP address, when Nico downloads a model, checks for an update, or refreshes its licence Unavoidable in any network request. We do not build profiles from it, and we do not log it beyond our hosting provider’s own request logs. Legitimate interests
Your email address, and the licence key we send to it To send you the key you have paid for. It goes out through our support provider, so that if it does not work your reply reaches us with the whole thread attached rather than as a message about a key we then have to go and find. Performance of a contract
Emails you send us, and our replies To answer you, and to keep the thread so that a second message about the same thing does not start from nothing. Legitimate interests

Cookies and analytics on this website: there are none

This website sets no cookies — not ours, not anybody else’s — stores nothing in your browser, and runs no analytics. No tag manager, no pixel, no session recorder, no fingerprinting, and no third-party request of any kind: every stylesheet, typeface and image on these pages is served from this domain. There is nothing to consent to, so nothing asks you: no banner, no preference centre, no choice for us to remember.

This page and the home page run no JavaScript at all. There is one exception on this website: the page you land on after subscribing runs one small script, served from this domain, whose only job is to fetch your licence key from us and show it to you. It loads nothing from anywhere else, sets no cookie, and stores nothing in your browser either.

The consequence, stated so it does not read as an accident: we do not know how many people read this page, or which parts of it. Our hosting provider keeps its own request logs, as every web host does, and that is the whole of what your visit leaves behind.

Counting inside the app

Nico keeps one date on your Mac — when you first turned speech into text — so it can tell when the seven-day trial is up. That date is stored locally and is not sent anywhere. There is no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting of your content in the application.

Where your prompts actually go

This is the part worth reading twice

When you ask Nico for something, it runs the Claude Code, Codex or Ollama command-line tool already installed on your Mac. If you use Claude Code or Codex, your prompt and whatever context it includes go to Anthropic or OpenAI under your own agreement with them, not ours. We never see it, and we cannot control their handling of it — their privacy policy governs, not this one.

If you use Ollama, the model runs on your Mac and nothing is sent anywhere.

The same applies to any MCP tool you switch on: a tool that reaches a service sends data to that service. Nico shows you each tool and requires you to allow it individually.

Retention

Billing records are held by Stripe and kept for six years. That is not a preference: UK tax law requires records of a transaction to be available for six years after the end of the accounting period they fall in, and it applies whether the records sit with us or with our processor. Support emails are kept for two years. There is nothing else to retain, because there is nothing else we hold.

International transfers

Our payment processor and email provider may process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, as their own terms set out.

Refunds & cancellation

Cancelling

Cancel whenever you like, from the link in your Stripe receipt, or by emailing us. Your subscription runs until the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew.

Your apps, their data folders and anything you transcribed are ordinary folders on your Mac. They stay there, and they stay yours.

Refunds — 14 days, no questions asked

Email us within 14 days of a payment and we will refund that payment in full and cancel the subscription. You do not have to give a reason, we will not ask you for one, and we will not ask you to prove anything. This is not at our discretion and there is nothing to qualify for: inside 14 days, the refund is yours for the asking.

A refund does not reach onto your Mac. Your apps, their data folders and anything you transcribed are ordinary folders and they stay yours. What ends is new work in Nico: the licence file it keeps on your Mac is deliberately short over your first fortnight, so it runs out soon after a refund rather than at the end of a month you no longer paid for.

If you are a UK or EU consumer

You have a 14-day right to cancel a purchase of digital content, and we do not ask you to waive it. There is no box at checkout asking you to agree that supply begins at once and that you therefore lose that right, because the policy above is simpler and more generous than the right is: 14 days from the payment, no reason needed, and the seven-day trial means you have already used the software before you pay for anything. None of this affects your rights where the software is faulty or not as described.

Third parties

Everyone who could touch anything of yours, and what they touch.

WhoWhat they receiveWhen
Stripe Name, email, billing address, card details When you subscribe or renew
Featurebase Your email address, the licence key we send you, and the contents of anything you write to us through support or that we write back When we send your licence key, and whenever you contact support
Google Workspace Your email address and the contents of your message When you write to us directly rather than through support
Vercel Your IP address and your licence key, when Nico refreshes its licence; your IP address when you visit this site When Nico refreshes its licence, and on every page view
Google Cloud (Firestore) Your email address, your subscription status, and a hash of your licence key From when you subscribe until six years after your last payment
Anthropic / OpenAI Your prompts and their context — under your own subscription, not ours Only when you use Claude Code or Codex
Hugging Face and its mirrors Your IP address, and which model you are downloading Only when you download a model
Apple Standard notarisation and Gatekeeper checks made by macOS itself When you first open the app
Any MCP tool you enable Whatever that tool is for Only after you allow that tool

Featurebase is new to that list. It is how we send your licence key and how support works, which means a copy of your email address and of anything you write to us sits with them as well as with us. It is a data processor acting on our instructions and it does not get to use any of it for anything else. Our help centre is hosted by them too, but nothing on this website loads anything of theirs: the support page links to the help centre rather than embedding it, so you reach Featurebase only by clicking, and only when you choose to.

There is no font CDN on that list, and no analytics provider either. That is deliberate: the three typefaces this website is set in are served from this domain rather than from Google, so reading this page discloses your IP address to our hosting provider and to nobody else. Until 27 September 2026 the typefaces came from Google’s servers, which disclosed it to Google as well, on a page that had asked you nothing. It was our mistake, and the fix was to stop making the request rather than to ask you about it.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. There is nothing to sell: the interesting material never reaches us.

Your data rights

If you are in the UK or the EEA you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict our processing of it, and to have it ported elsewhere. In practice that is your billing and support records, because we hold nothing else.

Write to vinay@wingmannico.com and we will answer within one month. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local supervisory authority in the EEA.

The controller of that data is Pixmeknot Limited, at the address above.

vinay@wingmannico.com — support, billing and data protection alike. It is a small company; that is the same inbox.

If what you need is help with the software, the support page answers the four things people write in about most often, and is quicker than waiting on a reply.

If any part of these documents turns out to be wrong about how Nico behaves, the behaviour is the thing we will correct.
